Canada – Caesars and Genting linked to Toronto casino bids

By - 22 August 2016

Caesars Entertainment and Genting Group are reportedly amongst six operators who have lodged their interest in bidding for the licence for a casino in Toronto, which would be the biggest casino in Canada.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp said it would announce a winner late next summer. Toronto held a vote in July 2015 to approve a live table casino as part of an entertainment complex. Early reports suggest that two development sites are under consideration in the city however Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp Spokesman Tony Bitoni ruled that out.

He said that only the Woodbine Racetrack was being considered for the casino project.

“We cannot speak about who the proponents are or how many proponents there are,” he explained. “The one announcement that we will be making is the successful proponent in late summer 2017.”

Indeed a group of architects have already been selected to help design the 683-acre development built around the existing Woodbine Racetrack, which hosts live horse races four days a week.

The Laguna Beach, California-based office of SWA Group, San Francisco-based BCV Architects, and New York-based Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates are designing a mixed-use urban neighbourhood will be developed. The track is owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group.
