Chile- Bomb threat made to Enjoy in Coquimbo

By - 13 October 2017

Two hundred employees and 120 guests had to be evacuated from the Enjoy Hotel de la Bahía in the Chilean city of Coquimbo last week, after a woman who did not give her name, called the administration to say that an explosive device had been planted on the premises.

Special police forces were mobilised to the casino and to the hotel but fortunately no bomb was found. The caller gave the management just twenty minutes to evict all people on the premises saying that if they failed to do so and if something were to happen then “it is your fault.”

Navy personnel, members of the Chilean national police force (Carabineros) as well as members of the Special Operational Group (GOPE) arrived on the scene while casino clients and guests at the hotel were evacuated. The call was made after seven p.m on September 27.

In a statement Enjoy Coquimbo said: “As a result of an anonymous bomb threat to the facilities of the Hotel de la Bahía, previously established security protocols were carried out and the rapid communication with Carabineros and the Special Operational Group was made, who requested the evacuation of all people from the hotel as well as the entertainment centre. As is the case in these instances, the investigative process is being carried out by the relevant agencies and our complete camera coverage and our personnel who are trained in monitoring allows us to provide all the necessary support for the steps that the national police force (Carabineros) need to take. Enjoy and the Hotel thanks both staff and guests for their collaboration at the time the events occurred, and reiterates its total commitment to guaranteeing the security conditions necessary to safeguard the integrity of its customers and staff, as an operational priority.”
