Colombia – Colombian regulators agree to work together after Gaming Summit

Regulatory bodies that met last week during The Fourth Ibero-American Gaming Summit have issued a joint statement highlighting the necessity to promote the co operation between member nations and to exchange information in order to combat illegal gambling.

In the statement the body outlined a number of common goals and placed particular emphasis on the need to work together in order to formulate new rules which would regulate online gaming.

During a number of roundtables industry professionals discussed the gaming situation in Latin America, the global gaming market and projections for the Latin American market as well as issues regarding the certification of online gaming, the rise of sports betting as well as developments in the lottery industry and the land based sector.

At the end of the conference regulators in a statement highlighted the need to put into place stricter player protection measures, promote responsible gambling, prevent money laundering and regulate new games. Regulators also highlighted the growth of online gambling and announced steps to work together to formulate new strategies when it came to regulating the market. It was also announced that Spain and Colombia had both agreed to provide market analysis and information in order to provide guidelines for regulatory best practices when it came to online gaming in other jurisdictions in the region.
For the fourth consecutive year, the organisation of the Fourth Ibero-American Gaming Summit is being undertaken by JAK Communication and the international consulting firm Kreab. The event has the support of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Colombia, through the Department of Coljuegos, and the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration of Spain, through the General Directorate of Gaming.

Member of the regulatory bodies of Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Panamá, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and the host – the leading regulator in Colombia Coljuegos were all present as were members of CIBELAE (Corporation Iberoamericana de Loterías y Apuestas del Estado). This extensive political and business representation, enabled operators and manufacturers to strengthen their links with public administrations and improve mechanisms for information exchange between government and business.
