Fiji – One Hundred Sands’ casino under starters orders

By - 3 April 2014

The construction of Fiji’s first casino is now in ‘full swing’ according to One Hundred Sands Chairman Larry Claunch.

One Hundred Sands has been granted an exclusive 15-year gaming license to be the only casino operators in Fiji and is developing a five Star Casino Resort on Denarau Island with 500 slots as well as another casino in Suva.
The resort will feature over 200 rooms, villas and suites, a world class spa, multiple pools, 1,500 seat performing arts and convention center, high energy night club, three restaurants.

The operator also confirmed that fines for delaying the project of $800,000 have now also been paid whilst geotech tests performed by Riley Consultants have also proved no obstacle.

“We are up and running now, no more delays,” said Mr. Claunch. “We wanted to let everyone know that we have the results from tests conducted giving us assurance that it is finally safe now to begin. A casino is 50 times heavier than a normal building which meant a lot of testing had to be done underground first. All this we intend to complete within the next 18 to 24 months depending on the availability of pre-load for landfill and the base structure of the whole facility.”
