G2E – AMD celebrating 15-year legacy of digital gaming experiences

By - 23 September 2016

Since its debut in 2001, the annual international Global Gaming Expo (G2E) tradeshow has showcased the newest and most innovative digital casino gaming machines, ushering in cutting-edge technologies that have transformed the digital gaming experience in myriad ways.

Beginning with the early era of single-screen games, the gaming experience has evolved to include high-definition displays and in-game video playback, and onward to 3D graphics, multi-display configurations and 4K resolution. Where once digital casino gaming was confined to only slot machines, today it encompasses digital blackjack, roulette and much more.

Throughout the 15 years that have passed since the inaugural G2E event, every step of the way Radeon graphics technology has been at the forefront of innovation for digital casino gaming platforms, setting benchmarks for processing performance, design versatility and reliability. Today, AMD Radeon graphics technology powers advanced gaming platforms from leading gaming machine developers and manufacturers from around the globe, supported by a world-class team of AMD application experts and engineers and complemented by a robust ecosystem of AMD technology partners.

Every new generation of high performance AMD Embedded SOCs and discrete GPUs is designed to support the newest and most ambitious casino game design requirements, enabling enticing, visually-arresting gaming experiences, with features that today include full 4K multimedia processing support, and multiple video and 3D acceleration.

Multi-display graphics support has emerged as another ‘must have’ feature for digital casino gaming systems, enhancing players’ immersion in the gaming experience with overhead visuals and/or panoramic ‘surround sight’ screen configurations that could include from one to 10 displays for single or multi-player gaming, leveraging AMD technology. This one-computer-to-many-display architecture requires an embedded processing platform that can keep pace with the corresponding increase in graphics performance demands, incorporating high speed graphics cores capable of driving multiple screens in high resolution while maintaining high frames-per-second performance during video decode. AMD is a widely recognized industry leader in this capability.

Mitch Furman, Senior Market Development Manager, Electronic Gaming Machines, AMD, said: “On the eve of G2E’s fifteenth anniversary, AMD remains resolute in our commitment to meeting and surpassing the compute and graphics performance requirements of interactive, multimedia-rich digital casino games, and is exploring the future of sophisticated next-generation gaming features including gesture control and player facial recognition. With high performance AMD Embedded processors and our expert design support, casino gaming machine developers are sharpening their competitive edges and getting to market faster with highly differentiated, visually-stunning gaming systems that attract, retain and delight casino gamers. AMD-enabled digital casino gaming systems can transcend the entertainment experiences provided by commercial in-home and mobile gaming systems, providing an extraordinary visual spectacle that will entice the next generation of gamers out of the comfort of their homes and into the casino, giving them a visceral digital gaming experience that defies their expectations and surpasses their imaginations.”
