Italy – Three out of four casino licences in Italy showing growth

By - 18 September 2017

Revenues were up in August at three of Italy’s four lessened casino operators with only the two venues in Venice, showing declines.

Italy’s top earning casino in August was Casino Campione d’Italia, located on the banks of Lake Lugano. It generated €7m during August, up 4.87 per cent on last year’s August earning. The casino’s slots produced revenue of €5.2m with French roulette down 39 per cent whilst American roulette surged by 63.2 per cent. So far in 2017, Campione has generated revenues of €60.3m, down 1.4 per cent on last year’s to August results

The biggest increase in August was at Casino de la Vallee in Saint Vincent which generated revenues of €5.4m, representing an increase of 10.36 per cent from August a year earlier. The increase came due to the casino’s traditional tables with the slots only slightly up but still generating over €3.2m. So far in 2017 the casino has produced revenues of €38.4m.

The casino in San Remo generated GGR of €5.6m, up 7.34 per cent at €5.6m. Slots were up 2.45 per cent, reaching €4.1m. The stand out story though was with roulette, which having generated €162,000, was up a huge 296.2 per cent. Again though for the first eight months of 2017, San Remo’s GGR were stagnant, up just 0.58 per cent as they reached €31m.

Staff strikes at Casino di Venezia have clearly had an impact where GGR was down 15.2 per cent at €6.9m, despite attendance increasing by 5.3 per cent.
