South Korea – Gambling growth slows in South Korea

South Korea, the focus of so much casino attention recently, has seen its gambling market grow for the ninth consecutive year.

The government of South Korea reported a one per cent increase in 2014 with the total amount generated
KRW19.7tn equating to $17.6bn.

Sports betting and lottery tickets generated more than KRW3.28tn ($2.9m) each. They marked a 6.5 per cent and 1.4 per cent increase as compared to what was posted back in 2013.

Government officials highlighted though that growth was slower than in the past with the growth rate slowing from five per cent in 2011 and 6.5 per cent in 2012.

It has predicted that 2015’s revenues will come in at KRW20tn ($17.7bn) suggesting another year of minimal growth.
