Spain – CIRSA reports eight per cent increase in first half

In the first half of this year, Spanish born gaming operator CIRSA, reported an operating profit of €197.1m, marking an increase of eight per cent over the first half 2015.

The group generated revenue of €788m, 0.6 per cent above the previous year for that period. In the second quarter, turnover came in at €399m, similar to the same period in 2015.

A spokesperson said: “The correct implementation of the operational plans of the group in the different geographies and businesses and the overall improvement of all activities in Spain have helped to achieve these results, confirm market expectations. These results are primarily driven by all the countries in the Latin America division where CIRSA’s casinos have managed to increase their revenues and earnings in the local currency, mitigating the partially significant devaluations of the Argentine Peso (65.4 per cent) and the Colombian Peso (23 per cent). Such growth, together with the optimisation plans and the cost reductions we implemented, has also helped to minimise the impact of such exchange rates.”

Casinos in Spain continue to see favourable development both in terms of number of visits and the money spent.

The slots division also maintained favourable revenue growth. In Italy CIRSA reaffirmed its leadership in the AWP machines market, while maintaining the highest levels of revenue in the sector thanks to the optimisation of management and the point of sale In terms of VLT,, CIRSA said it maintained its leadership in the segment with high revenue per machine, which highlights the acceptance of the Unidesa new games.

CIRSA’s bingo results improved significantly with remarkable growth in both the traditional bingo and machines sector supported by favourable market conditions. The various loyalty programs have provided growth in the number of visits, together with a wide range of multi-game machines, electronic roulette terminals and the sports betting Sportium terminals all making good progress.

In the B2B division, Unidesa continued to maintain market leadership Spanish in the sale of Category B machines with the growth of outlets in the area of Binjocs in Catalonia noteworthy.
Sportium continues to assert its leadership in the domestic market, with the start of new operations in Asturias and Melilla. It is now present in 15 communities with a total of approximately 1,700 terminals in Spain. The favourable evolution of the eplay terminal and multichannel synergies have further intensified Sportium leadership.

Mexico continues to improve the recruitment and retention of new customers. This, together with the launch of new types of game and the improved management of machines, has provided a significant increase in results.
