Switzerland – Grand Casino Lucerne hosts first e-sports tournament

By - 6 November 2017

Grand Casino Lucerne has held its first ever eSports event, hosting a FIFA18 tournament on October 22 in its panoramic hall.

128 participants experienced a tournament of the highest class with the winner taking home 2,000 francs and The Lucerne club Royal Cup.

A total of 3,000 francs of prize money was distributed.

Simon Steiger, President of RoyalCup, said: “There were players from all over Switzerland. Among the participants were some professional players. Most of them are also passionate footballers away from the virtual grass.”

Casino CEO Wolfgang Bliem said he was interested in hosting further tournaments. “We will wait and evaluate the first tournament, but the demand for e-sports events is high and the response so far has been very positive,” he said.

The entire event could be followed live on the Internet via the “twitch.tv” platform. Players and guests were given free entry to the Grand Jeu and Jackpot Casino throughout the tournament.
