US – Foxwoods joins competition for Massachusetts casino

By - 6 March 2015

Foxwoods Resort Casino has signed a letter of intent with developer KG Urban Enterprises to operate a casino on the site of an abandoned NStar power plant on New Bedford’s waterfront in Massachusetts.

William Satti, Legislative Affairs Director for the Mashantucket Pequot tribal nation, which owns and operates Foxwoods, said: “The Mashantuckets have signed a letter of intent with KG Urban for a possible branding and operating agreement. It would be premature to comment any further at this point on this matter.”

KG Urban spokesman Andrew Paven, added: “We are thrilled to have entered into a letter of intent with the Mashantuckets. This is one key step in moving forward to securing a (casino resort) license in southeastern Massachusetts. We are still very optimistic and we are still bullish on New Bedford.”
Three applicants are competing for a Massachusetts casino license.

Somerset on the Move and Crossroads will bid for a Somerset casino whilst Mass Gaming & Entertainment, a division of Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, wants to build at Brockton Fairgrounds.

Applicants must have presented their initial applications to the Gaming Commission by March 16.
